PEDAL - Review
PEDAL (Pedal Energy Development Alternatives) is a community based pedal power program based in Vancouver, BC. Their stated mission is to develop and promote the use of pedal power technology. One of their projects is a community based bicycle shop called Our Community Bikes. They recycle bicycles and allow customers full access to tools and learning. They organize and promote a variety of community events and sustainable living programs.
I’ve visited them on several occasions and I have always been impressed by their helpful attitudes. The very best bike shop in Vancouver by far! Visit their website for more information, they’ve got great write-ups for all of their projects.
PEDAL Highlights:
Our Community Bikes - Bicycle recycling depot, a full repair shop, and an educational workshop available to people who wish to repair their own bikes or learn how to do so.
Pedal Play - Offers Custom Bicycle Building Workshops for all ages (one-on-one or small groups). Includes design, metalworking, and bicycle mechanics.
The Bike Depot - Bicycles are reclaimed from the waste stream and fixed-up for donation to people in need, or resold to partially offset costs of PEDAL’s educational programs.
