What an exciting and fun website! Designed with kids in mind, Meet the Greens uses flash media to present information about climate change and environmental issues. Todd Albert is a teacher and researcher who specializes in climate change and glaciers. He has been simultaneously conducting research on both the Quelccaya Ice Cap in the high Peruvian Andes, and the Greenland Ice Sheet. His background is mostly in Geography, but he has also focused on satellite remote sensing, snow and ice, and climate. Todd recently defended his dissertation and was awarded a Ph.D. in Geography at Florida State University. Read more…

My dad’s got a great farm out in Shediac Cape, New Brunswick. He and his wife Carla have set out to build a sustainable farm complete with a rammed-earth house and electricity from renewable energy sources. Here he is grinding some wheat (and getting some excercise).

English Science Teacher Andy Darvill has created a very informative website about several sources of renewable energy. While the site is intended for a school audience, it doubles as a useful public information resource. Andy’s well-organized (and colourful) site includes quizzes, worksheets, and links to great online information. In each category he uses simple and clear language to explain how each technology works and then summarizes the pros and cons of each. Read more…

Going green has never been as profitable as it right now, and it looks as though this business trend is just getting started. Whether it’s clothes, cars, food, homes, or a plethora of other items, environmentally conscious products are generating revenue and profit for the companies with a conscience for a cleaner environment and/or healthy revenue stream. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not as though these companies are generating billions of dollars from their ecologically-friendly products, it’s just that it’s nice to see some companies recognizing consumer demand for these kinds of products and then taking the risk to produce these goods. PEDAL (Pedal Energy Development Alternatives) is a community based pedal power program based in Vancouver, BC. Their stated mission is to develop and promote the use of pedal power technology. One of their projects is a community based bicycle shop called Our Community Bikes. They recycle bicycles and allow customers full access to tools and learning.
